Goals and Objectives
The ski area master plan involves planning the installation of new facilities on the mountain and in the base area. Facilities are generally constructed over several phases of development; increasing the quality and size of the area as time progresses and the market dictates. However, it is critical to have a clear view of the complete project at build-out, so that facilities can be balanced and capital effectively invested over the life of the project.
Objectives
The objectives of the Las Vegas Ski and Snowboard Master Plan are listed below:
- Upgrade all facilities to exceed current industry standards.
- Optimize the use and operational efficiency of the physical plant and area layout.
- Five to ten year plan to renovate and expand the existing ski resort to current industry standards
- Provide year-round recreational activities for families and visitors of all ages. Summer activities such as mountain biking and bike park, alpine slides or coasters, concerts, hiking, mountain boards, ziptreks, stargazing, Euro-bungee, etc. Winter activities such as tubing, MiniZ, snowshoeing, Nordic skiing, climbing wall, Euro-bungee, etc.
- Balance lift and trail capacity to maintain quality skiing and snowboarding conditions and meet the requirements of the market
- Balance mountain capacity with guest services base staging areas and parking
- Additional beginner terrain to "grow" the market
- Develop "gladed" areas to provide a wider sliding experience and reduce fire hazards by removing deadfall timber
- Increase snowmaking reservoir capacity and increase snowmaking coverage
- Replace and modernize existing run down skier service buildings
- Provide a high quality, affordable unique resort experience for the greater Las Vegas, Clark County and surrounding areas as well as guests from other parts of the United States and the world
- Identify potential future expansion areas
- Increase capacity of all operational components to meet the increasing recreational demand from Las Vegas and surrounding areas.
- Since environmental stewardship is of the highest priority, all facilities and activities, both summer and winter, will be located, constructed and undertaken in an environmentally sensitive manner. Las Vegas Ski and Snowboard Resort will develop and submit environmental plans for the following areas: Erosion and Sediment Control, Water Management, Watershed Protection, Solid Waste Management, Liquid Waste Management, Drainage Control and Storm water Management, Vegetation Management, Air Quality Management and Monitoring, Energy Management and Conservation and Wildlife Management.
We are committed to sustainable development. Our goal is to refer to the guidelines set forth in the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification for the structures that are constructed as part of the Master Plan.
Our goal is to explore the most efficient alternative energy technology available, such as co-generation, geothermal, solar and wind power. We will also work with the local power utility to do a feasibility study for running a power line to the ski area.
We are committed to reducing our carbon footprint. We will make every effort to use bio fuels and leading technology in our vehicle fleet. This could include bio diesel, ethanol, propane, natural gas, and hybrids.
