Historical Perspective
Skiing activity first occurred in the Lee Canyon area during the 1930's. Following this, in the early 1940's, the Forest Service began to evaluate the potential for skiing. The conclusion by the Forest Service was that there were suitable slopes and locations for lifts. Over the next 10 years, a rope tow and a warming hut was constructed.
In 1962, a Special Use Permit was granted to the Clark County Board of Commissioners. Winter operations facilities at that time included two rope tows, a ski sled on a cable and a warming lodge.
Over the next three decades, various environmental assessments and special permits were approved, which allowed improvements to the base area and uphill structures, as well as the installation of a snowmaking system and night lighting.
